Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey scored his first La Liga goal as Atletico Madrid beat Levante 1-0 to leapfrog giants Barcelona to go top of the table of the Spanish top-flight on Saturday night.

The substitute struck with only nine minutes with the strike that squirmed away from Levante goalkeeper Diego Marino to hand the home side the win.

“The team is playing well and anyone could have got the goal,” the 22-year-old Ghanaian young midfielder said.

“I am still learning and by working hard I am having more chances to play.”

Atletico struggled to break the defence of the basement until the Ghanaian was introduced into the game to secure the victory.

Partey had only been on the pitch for just seven minutes when he burst through the centre of the penalty area and fired leaving goalkeeper Marino was unable to hold at the first attempt for the only goal of the game.

The result means Atletico move to 41 points in the world's fanciest league, two more than giants Barcelona who have a game in hand.
