Ghanaian youngster Edward Opoku nominated for Man of the Match in Columbus Crew defeat to Atlanta City

Ghanaian youngster Edward Opoku has been nominated for Columbus Crew's Acura Man of the Match award after an outstanding performance on Sunday.

The young winger starred despite Columbus Crew's 3-1 defeat to Atlanta United in the MLS on Sunday evening.

Opoku saw 70 minutes of action and was replaced by Justin Meram but his performance was enough to see him nominated for Columbus Crew Man of the Match.

He competes for the accolade with Ghanaian- American forward Gyasi Zardes, who scored the only goal for the Gold and Blacks.

Captain Will Trapp and Artur are the other two players nominated for the accolade. Fans of the club are expected to vote for the Man of the Match via their social media handles.

Meanwhile a goal in the 50th minute from Columbus Crew SC's Ghanaian-American forward Gyasi Zardes found the scoreline even at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but two late tallies from Atlanta United put the home side on top 3-1 at the final whistle on Sunday.

Atlanta’s Josef Martinez opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Hector Villalba gave Atlanta the go-ahead goal while Miguel Almiron scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute.
