Giroud revels in Blues stay

Published on: 21 May 2019

Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has revealed his delight after putting pen to paper on a new one-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge.

The France international was set to be out of contract this summer but the 32-year-old's new deal will see him stay with Chelsea until the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Giroud was delighted to get a deal over the line and hopes that he will be able to land a few more trophies before he decides on the next chapter of his career.

"I am very happy to sign a new contract. I really wanted to stay at least one more year," he told the club’s website.

"I have felt a part of the team, the family, since the beginning and hopefully there will be more trophies to come."

Giroud has managed 17 goals in 62 appearances so far for the Blues, after making the switch from Arsenal in January 2018.

The focus for the 2018 World Cup winner will now be on the Europa League final, with the Blues set to face Giroud's former club Arsenal.

Chelsea are 11/8 to win, 12/5 to draw and 19/10 to lose against the Gunners.
