Gladson Awako explains decision to leave Great Olympics

Published on: 03 September 2021

Gladson Awako has said that his desire to experience a new challenge led him to leave Great Olympics and join Hearts of Oak.

But the midfield dynamo claims parting ways with Great Olympic wasn't easy because the club had become more like a family.

“I knew from the onset it's not going to be that easy because of the relationship I had with Olympics and they also felt this is the time they needed me most and because of the way the season went for us last campaign, they felt they have to keep me for us to come back stronger in the coming season than we did this season," Awako said in an interview with Joy Sports.

“So, it wasn’t easy but as a player, I needed to move on to have a new challenge and all that, so I spoke with the Board Chairman, Oluboi Commodore and the coach, Annor Walker which wasn’t easy but they have to understand that am human and I have to move on”

“They came to understand that this is my work and I need to move on and have a new challenge, so it wasn’t easy,” he said.

Awako completed his move to Hearts of Oak last month and has been registered for CAF Champions League.

Hearts of Oak's Africa journey starts next week in Guinea where they will face CI Kamsar.
