Ghana captain John Mensah and the side's most experienced player goalkeeper Richard Kingson say deputy coach Akwasi Appiah must be promoted to coach the Black Stars as the substantive head coach.

Mensah, who plays for English side gave his ringing endorsement for Appiah's appointment insisting he has the credentials to succeed in the hot seat.

Nearly thirty European coaches have expressed interest in the post while Ghana-born ex-France international Marcel Desailly are keen to handle the Black Stars on permanent basis.

Appiah, who worked as an assistant while Rajevac was in charge, is highly expected to be handed the nod to name the squad that will host Sudan in Afcon qualifier on 10 October.

But the experienced Blackpool back-up goalie believes the ex-Ghana captain has the credentials to succeed.

"Akwasi Appiah is down to earth, he is humble and we all respect him. When he speaks to everyone in the team, he is listened to," Kingson said.

"Every Black Stars player loves him and I personly wants the job to be given to him permanently because we I know he is a competent coach and he can do the job."

There has been a massive public outcry for the appointment of an indigenous Ghanaian with former U-20 coach Sellas Tetteh also coming into the picture.

But the Ghana Football Association says a competent coach will be appointed to lead the country regardless of the colour or nationality of the coach.
