Irish-born of Ghanaian descent Christopher Hughton has emerged as a target for relegated Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.

The Cherries are scouring for a new trainer following the departure of Eddie Howe after their demotion to Championship.

His position did not come as a huge shock to officials, and after discussions on Saturday they announced that Howe was leaving the club by mutual consent.

The highly-rated coach will now take a break from management following eight years at the helm.

Despite Bournemouth's relegation from the Premier League, the former Burnley boss's reputation remains intact.

According to Daily Mail, an early contender for the job is former Newcastle, Norwich and Brighton manager Hughton, who was sacked by Brighton in May 2019.

Hughton, 61, born to a Ghanaian father and an Irish mother has been linked with the Ghana Black Stars job in the past.
