Higuain closer to Chelsea move as AC Milan secure replacement

AC Milan are on the verge of losing striker Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea but already have his replacement lined up in the form of Genoa hotshot Krzysof Piatek.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is a huge fan of ‘El Pipita’ and coached him to his best ever season in front of goal during their time together at Napoli and with Alvaro Morata underperforming at Stamford Bridge, is keen on a reunion with a man he knows well.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Higuain’s parent club Juventus have met with Chelsea to discuss a deal and have reached an agreement on a six-month loan deal, although the Old Lady had been pushing the Londoners for a longer commitment.

However, based on several performance related clauses such as goals, appearances and other parameters yet to be decided, the former Real Madrid is likely to remain with Chelsea in 2019/20.

For their part, Milan are happy to allow the forward to leave as, among other things, it represents a €9 million gross salary saving for the latter half of the campaign, which will be taken on by Sarri’s side.

The Rossoneri have moved quickly to find a replacement for the Argentina international and will secure the services of Piatek to do so, the Polish ace who has scored 13 goals for Genoa to make him the revelation of the campaign so far.

Milan already have an agreement in place with the player, who will earn €1.8m this season which will rise to €2m next year, along with significant goalscoring bonuses, although negotiations with the Rossoblu are a little more difficult.

The player is valued at €40m and it is unclear what kind of deal will be completed as Milan are pushing for a loan with the right to purchase him permanently, while Genoa are keen on a permanent move in a bid to justify selling such an important player at such a delicate phase of the campaign.

Leonardo could push for a €10m sale up front and settle the remaining €30m that Genoa are seeking over time.
