INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL / Wales could spare Bale for upcoming friendlies

Published on: 04 March 2016

Wales coach Chris Coleman has stated that he is willing to refrain from calling up Gareth Bale for the country's two friendlies later this month if the attacker has not played regularly for Real Madrid and the club wants him to take it easy.

"Real Madrid have been so good with us in terms of how they have treated us. They have been very respectful. They have never ever put an obstacle in our way, in terms of getting Gareth. We need to repay that compliment. If he has not had enough game time and he needs to have more time there, then so be it", Coleman told the media.

The Dragons boss sympathised with the fact that Bale has "has had a bit of a [tough] time of it" recently in Madrid because of injury setbacks, which have led to a "stop-start" spell.
