Ghana defender Jeff Schlupp has revealed he felt something special was about to happen at Leicester City when they appointed Claudio Ranieri as the manager in the summer.

The appointment of the experienced Italian may have received a mixed reaction, but Schlupp said he was immediately excited about the appointment and he has been proven right as City managed a 1-0 win over Southampton to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Schlupp, who missed part of the campaign with a hamstring injury, said he is learning a from Ranieri and is becoming a better player for the experience.

"Of course, I've found it really good," Schlupp says in Sunday's official matchday magazine.

"We were really excited to find out he would be the manager, knowing that he'd managed a lot of top sides in Europe.

"We almost expected something special to happen and he's come to the club and done that.

"On a personal note, we've had a lot of little one-to-one chats where he's helped me in different ways.

"I'm trying to take it all on board, because I've got a lot of respect for him. It's been a great experience, so hopefully he'll help me to progress with my career.

"An important thing with managers is their man-management. He's taken time out of his day to help me and it's always nice knowing that he's personally willing to help a player."
