Kingson set to permanently capture Blackpool spot

Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson looks to have seized the club’s starting place after recent impressive performances.

Coach Ian Holloway is reluctant to put the Black Stars shot stopper back to the bench even when Matt Gilks returns from injury later this month.

Kingson took over from Gilks, who had been the leading goalkeeper for Blackpool since the start of the season but Holloway isn't fretting too much because of Kingson's form.

The Ghana international pulled off some fine stops in the last two matches, against Wolves and Bolton, and has proved a more than able replacement for Matt Gilks, who is ruled out until after Christmas with a fractured kneecap.

Manager Holloway said: "Watching Richard play has been a delight so far. He has done a great job and impressed me. He looks as though he has had the shirt all his life.

"We've got Mark Halstead as well backing him up, so we're in safe hands. "Even when Gilks and Rachubka are back, Richard is going to give them a real fight for that shirt the way he is performing."

Kingson's next task is to keep out Dimitar Berbatov, Wayne Rooney and the rest of the Manchester United team when the Reds arrive at Bloomfield Road on Saturday evening, smarting from last night's 4-0 Carling Cup thrashing at West Ham.

Despite that setback, United remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier League and top the table by two points.
