Kirin Soccer Cup 2022: Black Stars arrive safely in Japan for four-nation tournament

The Ghana national team have landed safely in Osaka, Japan for the four-nation tournament (Kirin Soccer Cup 2022) which involves the hosts, Chile and Tunisia.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from Friday, June 10, 2022 to Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

Black Stars arrived in Japan for the tournament on Wednesday without some key players including goalkeeper Joseph Wollacot, Gideon Mensah, Elisha Owusu and Jonathan Mensah.

Wollacot and Owusu were excused from the trip to the Asian country due to illness and injury they are carrying which saw miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Central African Republic last Sunday.

Mensah who has been key to the team since the World Cup playoff has been given permission to go and sort out his future. His loan spell at Girondins Bordeaux has expired and is expected to find a new club this summer.

Mensah also missed out on the journey to Japan for the tournament due to a serious head injury he suffered against Central Africa in the AFCON qualifications.

The experienced central defender was rushed to Clinica Girasol in Luanda for further medical care after receiving an emergency treatment on the field. He was released from the hospital on Monday.

Ghana is already missing the services of Arsenal star Thomas Partey due to an injury, Joseph Aidoo, Richard Ofori, Antoine Selorm Semenyo and Alexander Djiku.

The Black Stars will begin the Kirin Soccer Cup tournament with an encounter against the host country on Friday at the Noevir Stadium Kobe before facing either Chile or Tunisia four days later.
