Dr. K.K Sarpong says Asante Kotoko will remain a selling club in order to raise enough money to run the side.
The current Kotoko administration has come under intense criticisms for the operation of their ‘selling model’.
The club has lost a lot of their best players in recent times to clubs with more financial muscle in order to raise enough money to balance its financial books.
This selling regime has come at a great cost to the side as Kotoko suffered an early elimination on their return to the CAF Champions League.
The club again runs the risk of losing some of their best talents in the current side that has managed to retain the Premier League trophy.
And Dr. Sarpong has reiterated his model of selling players as a means to raise enough money to augment the ‘woefully inadequate’ inflows they get from sponsors and from gate proceeds.
"What model are we looking at? How do we raise money?" he said in a defence of his selling policy in an extensive interview with the BBC.
"We aren't getting enough money from sponsorship, woefully inadequate.
"We are not getting enough money from the gates. In fact we are in competition with the EPL, with the Bundesliga, with the Spanish La Liga in terms of viewership and I think that is where we have a difficulty.
"We are unable to bring in money locally to run the club."
Kotoko has lost players such as Daniel Nii Adjei, Yaw Frimpong and Awal Mohammed to the ‘selling model’ of the current administration.
Most of the club fans have however spoken against this policy – insisting the policy robs the team of the needed quality materials required to deliver the silverwares they crave for.
