Samuel Osei-Kuffour is worried over the excessive pressure being put on the Black Stars ahead of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana has been tipped as overwhelming favourites to end their 30-year wait for an Africa title following the absence of heavyweights Egypt, Cameroon and Nigeria.
However Kuffour says the 30-year wait seems to be turning to an obsession which could hurt the team at next year’s tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
“You and I both know we don’t have to put undue pressure on the team,†he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“The fact that the giants are not there and also that we have not won it in 30-years doesn’t make the title automatic for us.
“Failure to win the cup next year doesn’t necessarily mean it is all over for us, remember our boys are very young and therefore there will be more opportunities for us to win it.â€
Ghana has been drawn in Group D alongside Botswana, Guinea and Mali and would be based in the Gabonese city of Franceville.
