Lee Addy makes Red Star Belgrade debut

Ghana World Cup defender Lee Addy made his debut for Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade on Saturday night as they beat Javor 1-0.

The 22-year-old joined the club three weeks ago and was expected to play a role in last week’s league game.

But his debut was delayed because he arrived late from Swaziland where the Black Stars played the home country in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Addy was finally handed his debut on Saturday as they won the home match in Belgrade but was substituted by Jevtic later in the game.

He played in central defence and was supported at the heart of the midfield by his compatriot Issah Mohammed who has been a key player for the team over the past three years.

Addy signed a three-year contract with the former Uefa Champions League winners on 26 August after arriving from his homeland.

Addy, who played three matches for the Black Stars at the World Cup in South Africa in July, moved from local club Bechem Chelsea.
