Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan could finally announce his international retirement after being overlooked for a leadership role in the senior national team - the Black Stars.

The country's top scorer was 'elevated' to the position of General Captain ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after he was stripped of the captaincy in favour of Andre Ayew.

Now that General Captain role has been ignored in the latest reshuffled announced by the Ghana FA in a press statement on Sunday confirming Andre Ayew as the substantive captain.

Thomas Partey was named as the deputy Black Stars captain with goalkeeper Richard Ofori as the second assistant.

Gyan, now regarded as a ''common floor member'', might just decide that he has had enough and could throw in the towel to allow the current coach of the Black Stars CK Akonnor to bring new some new players.

The former Sunderland and Al Ain hero was Black Stars captain from 2013 to 2019 when Kwesi Appiah stripped him of the armband and handed it Andre Ayew.

Gyan initially quit the national team with immediate effect but was ordered to reconsider his decision after receiving a phone call from Ghana president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

If he goes ahead to hang is boots, holds the record for the most goals scored by any Ghana international.

He has scored 51 goals in 109 appearances for Ghana.
