Majeed Waris slams Wakaso over 'partisan politics' claims, fingers bias player selection for Ghana bane

France-based top striker Abdul Majeed Waris says player selection politics is the real bane of Ghana's national team, rubbishing claims by his Black Stars team-mate Mubarak Wakaso that partisan politics is cause of the country's title drought.

The Strasbourg blistering attacker said undeserving are selected for major tournaments ahead of in-form players which leads the Black Stars to bomb out of competitions leading to the extension of the 38-year Africa Cup of Nations title chase.

Waris, who was twice shockingly been dropped from the Black Stars squad just before major competitions even though was then the country's best attacker, insists bias player selection and other considerations, should be blamed for the continental title drought.

The 28-year-old, who is on loan from Portuguese side FC Porto, has sharply disagreed with the claims of his international team-mate and friend Mubarak Wakaso, who sparked fractious debates when he claimed that political parties are to blamed for the country's woes.

Wakaso, who has signed for Chinese side  Jiangsu Suning F.C, sparked controversy this week when he claimed the country's two biggest political parties - NPP and NDC are to be blamed for the country's 38-year trophy drought.

The midfielder was widely condemned and lambasted but subsequently apologised for the comment less than 23-hours admitting that he was wrong in his claims.

Waris has now piled in the pressure on Wakaso by dismissing the claims of his compatriot, insisting bias and bad player selection for major tournament should be blamed.

“I saw Wakaso making a comment that partisan politics is affecting the Black Stars. I feel that it is not entirely the case affecting the performance of the players, because politics doesn’t play football," he is quoted by  Saddick Adams  on YAC Media Instagram Live.

“I think with the national team the politics affects the selection of players. With me, they call you from Europe when you’re performing well and always drop you like a scapegoat for players who do not even play half a season and I’m not going to talk about myself alone.

“I feel the political aspect of players is something that is affecting the Black Stars.

“The selection is not based on your performance, it’s only based on politics in the team and I think it is something that affects us at tournaments because that’s the biggest stage that everyone wants to be part and that’s also when the politics get in a lot."
