Man Utd transfer round-up: Koeman's stance on Dembele as two targets prioritised

Published on: 07 April 2021

As the season enters the home straight Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already planning for life at Manchester United for next season.

The Red Devils are on course for an impressive second-placed finish and could yet land their first piece of silverware under their manager.

However Solskjaer knows as well as anyone that his side are not quite at the level needed to challenge for the title.

After a frantic transfer window last summer, the United boss will be keen to get his ducks in a row well before deadline day to avoid a late scramble.

With that in mind, here is the latest updates and rumours circulating round Old Trafford.

Koeman issues Dembele message

Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele continues to be linked with a switch to United after being touted as an alternative to Jadon Sancho last summer.

The 23-year-old has been in good form under boss Ronald Koeman this season and been every inch the player Barca were expecting when they shelled out the best part of £100million for him.

Yet with just over a year remaining on his current deal, Barca now have a decision to make, and with finances tight, they may be forced to sell the winger rather than lose him for nothing in 2022.

But as far as Koeman is concerned, he is hopeful it won't come to that after watching Dembele score a late winner in the victory over Valladolid on Monday.

"I would like Dembele to stay, he is an important player for us,” Koeman said.

“Today, he has shown that with his game and the goal. The key is that he has physically improved and has been able to play a lot of games in a row.”

Two targets prioritised

Erling Haaland is the name on everyone's lips at the moment, and round Old Trafford it is no different.

The striker's representatives are believed to have met with United chiefs last week to discuss a potential transfer.

However it seems United are not anticipating a move this summer, as they look to prioritise two other positions instead.

According to The Athletic, a right winger is still top of Solskjaer's wish list, even despite United signing Amad back in January.

In addition, solving the centre-back problem next to Harry Maguire is also on the United manager's agenda.

Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic is said to be on United's radar, while they have retained their interest in Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho but may be priced out of a bid again.

Three clubs chasing De Gea

Clubs across Europe have been put on red alert following Solskjaer's decision to axe David de Gea in favour of Dean Henderson.

The United boss has finally opted to change up his No.1 with the Spaniard now said to be considering his future.

De Gea is unlikely to get back in if Henderson finishes the season strongly and could seek a new challenge elsewhere rather than deputise on the bench.

As reports The Mail, PSG, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are all monitoring the 30-year-old's situation with a view to potentially making a move.
