Manchester United receive Cody Gakpo boost and more transfer rumours

Published on: 06 October 2022

Manchester United appear to have been given some positive news regarding their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.

United were heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old winger this summer, but a transfer failed to materialise as the club spent big on signing Antony instead. It was not necessarily a case of signing one or the other, yet the Brazilian's transfer fee would have certainly been a contributing factor in Erik ten Hag's decision not to pursue a move for Gakpo.

However, this could all be set to change, as reports from Dutch outlet Voetbal International (via Sport Witness) claim that PSV are suffering from financial difficulties, meaning that the club will need to sell one of Gakpo or Ibrahim Sangare to resolve matters.

Although specific details on the issues facing the Eredivisie side have not been revealed, it is claimed that a sale of either player would help alleviate any economic issues at the Dutch club, putting United on alert for a second chance to sign Gakpo.

Elsewhere, Italian outlet InterLive (via Teamtalk) report that United are eyeing up a move for Slovakian centre-back Milan Skriniar.

They claim that a January swap deal is being lined up by United for the 27-year-old. Inter Milan are understood to have tried and failed to agree a new deal with Skriniar, whose contract runs out next summer, and are now looking to cash in on their defender.

The report states that the Reds would consider offering either Anthony Martial or Donny van de Beek to the Serie A giants in a bid to finalise a deal for the 6ft 2in central defender.
