2020/21 Ghana Premier League: Week 7 Match Preview- Karela United v Medeama

Published on: 28 January 2021

Karela United and Medeama go toe-to-toe in an explosive Nzema derby in the Ghana Premier League at Aiyinase on Sunday.

Karela are huge favourite after making the Crossby Awuah Park a fortress where they are yet to lose a competitive match.

Striker Diawise Taylor is available and will look to add to his goal scoring feat.

Karela United coach Augustine Adotey welcomes his former club to Aiyinase with a lot at stake for both teams.

United will seek to consolidate their lead at the top of the table while Medeama will hope to cause an upset and improve their stock on the standings.

Expectation is huge in the Nzema enclave as the Mauve and Yellows make the short trip to their neighbours for the cracking derby on Sunday.

Medeama coach Samuel Boadu still does not have striker Amed Toure and returnee Prince Opoku Agyemang available until mid February.

The club has parted ways with two players - striker Abdul Basit Adam and midfielder Jasper Nimo Nartey while Ivorian Kalibo Dedy Toussaint has left for Burkina Faso side ASFA Yennega on a permanent contract.

But he will rely on striker Abass Mohammed who has netted four times so far in 10 matches.

Abass scored a brace for Medeama in their 2-1 win at home to Inter Allies.

But the CAMS Park is a difficult hunting ground for any visiting team where Karela United have huffed and puffed.

Medeama is the only team to have beaten Karela at their own backyard after recording a 2-0 win in memory of the late Senator David Brigidi back in October 2018.

However Medeama have won and drawn against the Aiyinase based- side since their friendly encounter two years ago.

Karela United are expected to continue to their unblemished home record but must be wary of the threat posed by their rivals.
