2020/21 Ghana Premier League: Week 13 Match Report - AshantiGold 0-1 Liberty Professionals

AshantiGold SC were handed a shocking home defeat by Liberty Professionals at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi in the Ghana Premier League.

The Miners lost 1-0 to the Scientific Soccer Lads as their winless streak was extended to five matches.

Liberty on the other hand have ended their five-game winless run with the vital victory in Obuasi.

AshantiGold head coach Milovan Cirkovic was absent at the dugout due to an ailment.

Assistant coach Thomas Duah stood in for the Serbian trainer and made four changes to the squad that lost 2-1 to Ebusua Dwarfs in the midweek.

Stephen Bentil was handed his first start in AshantiGold shirt as he replaced suspended Kwadwo Amoako.

Atta Kusi, Amos Addai and Isaac Opoku Agyemang took the places of Empem Dacosta, Mark Agyekum and Hans Kwofie respectively.

Liberty trainer David Ocloo made just one alteration to the team that drew 0-0 with Aduana Stars last Wednesday at the Carl Reindorf park.

Micheal Nii Laryea replaced Ahmed Satar at right back for the Scientific Soccer Lads.

The visitors made an early incursion in the game with the first goal attempt in the 20th minute but Simon Appiah Asamoah's effort went wide.

Liberty goalie Kofi Baah made a spectacular save as he tipped a point blank header from Richard Osei Agyemang over the crossbar in the 36th minute.

The Scientific Soccer Lads opened the scoring three minutes later through Obuasi-born and bred Kwaku Karikari following a brilliant counter attack.

AshantiGold came so close to getting the equalizer in the 90th minute but Eric Esso's header from close range was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Baah.

The Gold and Black outfit travel to Sogakope next weekend to take on WAFA SC in match day 14.
