Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has backed compatriot Baba Abdul Rahman to excel at his former club Chelsea.

Rahman, 21, joined the English champions on a five-year deal from German outfit Augsburg last Sunday.

The Ghana international is in line to mark his debut for the Blues when they travel to West Brom on Sunday and his international teammate Michael Essien, who enjoyed success at Chelsea has backed the youngster to impress.

"Wishing my country man Baba Rahman the very best of luck Chelsea, all the best my friend," he tweeted.

Essien joined Chelsea back in 2005 from French giants Lyon and went on to have a glittering and memorable nine-year spell with the four-time Premier League champions. Winning the title on two occasions with Chelsea, Essien also got his hands on four FA Cups and one Champions League – playing a part in the spine-tingling success against Bayern Munich in 2012.
