Michael Essien eyes future coaching position

Ghana and Chelsea star Michael Essien has not ruled out being a coach after retirement.

This means he could actually be coaching the Black Stars in the future when he is done with playing.

Looking to the future, Essien hasn't ruled out being a manager himself.

He said: "I have many challenges to fulfil like winning the Champions League, the World Cup. Becoming a manager? I don't know but football has been my life since I was a boy."

Essien becomes the second legendary Ghanaian, who play at the top level of club football, to have expressed interest in coaching in two weeks.

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, who plays for Cesena, has expressed interest in coaching the Black Stars when he retires.

This means a growing number of Ghanaian players who have worked under some of the best coaches in the world are keen on coaching.

This will have a trickle-down effect of the standard of play of the national teams in Ghana and a departure from the past when Ghanaians players shunned the country after retiring from the job.

Ex-France captain Marcel Desailly, who was born in Ghana, has expressed interest in coaching the Black Stars.
