Mighty Jets compound Arsenal woes

Mighty Jets strolled to a comfortable 2-0 win over Berekum Arsenal on Saturday to end the first half of the Ghana top flight above the drop.

Winger Tamimu Montari converted a 31st minute spot kick to hand Jets the lead before Abubakar Sidi grabbed his fourth goal of the season with a simple finish after a blunder from the visitors' defence.

Arsenal are facing the reality of returning to the second-tier league as they failed to mount a serious challenge.

It was visitors who took the first initiative on 14 minutes.

Experienced midfielder James Boadu poked a piercing drive from outside of the box but Frank Andoh palmed his goal-bound effort away.

Jet also came close to opening the scoring but Tamimu Montari wasted a glorious opportunity when he shot wide inside the 16 yard box.

The opener finally arrived just after the half hour mark when Benjamin Malik made light work of two Arsenal defenders before rounding up goalkeeper Rashid Muntawakilu.

The Arsenal shot-stopper fouled the attacker and the referee awarded a penalty to Jets.

Montari stepped up to rocket a powerful one to the blind side of the goalie.

Arsenal had scoring opportunities to draw level but their attacking line looked blunt.

After recess, the Gunners came strongly into the game but lacked the penetration.

They however conceded the second goal of the afternoon and their 22nd goal of the season under regretting circumstances.

There was an unpardonable defensive blunder from the Arsenal back line and Sidi Abubakar popped up to coolly finish off.

Ahead of Sunday remaining matches, Arsenal are second-bottom and Jets lie one place above the drop but six points adrift the relegation contenders.
