New Roma coach backs misfiring striker to succeed

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has backed the misfiring Edin Dzeko to get back to his best form, whilst saying it is unlikely that Seydou Doumbia will stay with the Giallorossi.

Doumbia has returned from his loan at CSKA Moscow and has been put up for sale by the club, as I Lupi have decided to place their faith in Dzeko, despite the Bosnian only scoring three times in Serie A this season.

“I know Doumbia’s qualities, he’s a player who caused me a lot of problems when I played against him in Russia. But, he has difficulty being a team player.” said Spalletti at his pre-match press conference, ahead of his side’s meeting with Frosinone.

“It seems to me that his future is already being dealt with,” he added.

“Bringing him back when he hasn’t been here could create more problems, so it’s best not to do so.

“We have a striker and his name is Dzeko. He is a player who has a lot of quality, we just need show confidence in him and play the ball into him.

“He has the quality and we just have to trust him. “
