The National Health Insurance Authority has partnered all four new Ghana Premier League clubs ahead of the new 2022/23 season.

NHIA signed an agreement expected to last for five years with GPL newcomers Kotoko Royals, Nsoatreman FC, Samartex and Tamale City FC.

At a ceremony held at the NHIS headquarters in Accra, attended by CEO, Dr Okoe Boye and Board Chairman Dr Ernest K.P Kwarko, the NHIS revealed that the strategic partnership is to help enroll more people on the scheme.

The partnership will see players, management, officials and fans of all four clubs registered on the National Health Insurance Scheme.

"This partnership is to help us increase the NHIS active membership to over 18 million to secure more support from development partners. We will support the teams to have access to medical consultants," said Dr Okoe Boye.

"NHIA is committed to working hard to ensure that every Ghanaian has a medical insurance cover. We have a duty to make sure that every Ghanaian knows about the NHIS. Whatever we will invest to drive up the numbers we will do it.

"The sad thing is that half of Ghana's population are not medically insured not because they cannot afford but sometimes, they don't care. This is the biggest human security threat," he added.

The deal will see the logo of the NHIS emboldened on the jerseys of all the four clubs while the NHIA will also provide medical services during match days.

Representatives of the clubs present at the unveiling of the partnership expressed gratitude to the NHIS, insisting it will help ease the burden of medical cost.

The Ghana Premier League begins on Friday September 9, 2022.
