Notts County will be cruising towards the play-offs in League One if Carlisle United, their closest rival for sixth place, lose their game in-hand, says on-loan winger Lloyd Sam.

Sam fired the Magpies into sixth with a hat-trick in a 3-1 win against Yeovil Town at Meadow Lane on Easter Monday, but they are only above Carlisle on goal-difference.

They both have tough games today as Notts play eighth-placed Brentford at Griffin Park and Carlisle face league leaders Charlton Athletic.

The Cumbrians then play Stevenage, who are ninth, in their game in-hand on Tuesday night.

"The goal is to get into the play-offs and that's where we are now. Hopefully Carlisle will lose their game in-hand and then we're cruising," said Sam.

"We want to keep winning every game."

Sam, who is on loan with Notts until the end of the season from Leeds United, lost in the semi-finals of the League One play-offs with Charlton two years ago so dreams of playing at Wembley in a final for the Magpies.

"I've never played at Wembley, but I've played in the play-offs and lost in the semi-finals, which was not nice. Hopefully we can go further this time, but let's get in there first," he said.

Sam believes Brentford is the hardest game the Magpies have left.

"Looking at their league position, it is the toughest game," he said. "They are a good team and it's away too. Hopefully we can be solid and get a win."

Notts also still have to play Bury, Wycombe Wanderers and Colchester United.

"On paper Brentford looks the hardest game we have left, but there will be twists and turns before the end of the season," said captain Neal Bishop.

"It is a big game, but it's only three points. Brentford is the biggest game because it's the next one. Then it's Bury.

"We have four big games left and we want to win them all."
