OFFICIAL: Anthony Martial completes loan move to Sevilla

Published on: 26 January 2022

Sevilla have completed the signing of Anthony Martial on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old arrived in Seville on Tuesday afternoon and underwent his medical before signing his contract, which will be in place until June.

Sevilla have not had to pay a fee to bring Martial to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, but they will contribute towards part of his wages.

Martial will meet up with his new Sevilla teammates for the first time on Thursday, which is when the squad are supposed to return to training after a few days off.

Sevilla's internationals

However, the Frenchman will not be able to meet the Sevilla players who are currently on international duty, with Munir El Haddadi, Bono and Youssef En-Nesyri at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Lucas Ocampos, Papu Gomez, Gonzalo Montiel, Marcos Acuna and Jesus Corona are taking part in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

Martial's World Cup dream

Martial has joined Sevilla with the hope of catapulting himself into contention to be in the France squad at the 2022 World Cup, with centre-back Jules Kounde also having the same goal, although he is already a regular in Didier Deschamps' squad.

Julen Lopetegui will be able to use Martial as a left winger or as a sole striker, and his arrival means that he is the second player to join Sevilla this January, following Corona's arrival from Porto.
