Palermo coach expects team to learn from Roma defeat

Palermo coach Giuseppe Iachini admitted that he thought his side’s fixture with Roma would be a learning experience.

The Sicilian side were thrashed 5-0 during Iachini’s first game back for his second spell on the bench and he expects the team to improve from the experience.

“Today’s was a game we had to learn from and we were in difficulty because some of our players weren’t fully fit,” said Iachini to Premium Sport.

“We’ll put the work in to make the team capable of doing better.

“I didn’t find the boys in the same condition as when I left them, it was predictable that there would be a step backward but we have to work and we have a difficult schedule.

“The boys will make themselves available to me and we will be able to climb back up the table.”

The Rosanero coach also addressed the controversy surround Francesco Totti’s exclusion from the Giallorossi’s squad.

“I don’t understand what has happened because I’m not on the inside and it’s wrong for us to talk about it from the outside,” Iachini added.

“Totti is and was an excellent player and [Luciano] Spalletti knows him best of all, I’m sure there will be some clarification in the coming days.”
