Lazio coach Stefano Pioli has claimed that his side shown character during their 1-1 draw against AC Milan in Serie A.

Marco Parolo powered in an early header for the visitors, but Carlos Bacca hit back soon after, with Senad Lulic receiving his marching orders in the final 10 minutes.

“We needed this sort of positive performance after our disappointing exit from the Europa League,” Pioli told Mediaset Premium.

“This response was vital and we produced a lot of chances via crosses and even scored from a corner.

“The defence were caught a number of times, but I felt that we were still unlucky tonight.

“It has been a complicated season, as we have suffered but gritted our teeth until the very end today and got a point that should give us confidence for the next few games.”

Lazio will now prepare for the Derby della Capitale against Roma in their forthcoming fixture, and the tactician has called on his depleted side to do their utmost to ensure the victory.

“We have to prepare the best we can,” he added. “We know that we have an opportunity to prove ourselves and satisfy our needs.

“All year we’ve had trouble with injury and suspensions.

“I hope those that are available can lend a helping hand because this is a very important game due to it being a derby.”
