Pjanic is exemplary in Europe

Miralem Pjanic may have taken a little longer than he would have liked to get going with Barcelona, but he has emerged as a leader in their Champions League campaign, having appeared in all five matches of the group stages.

The Bosnian's settling in period was anything but comfortable, having arrived with COVID-19 and thus not being able to train with his new colleagues for a fortnight.

LaLiga Santander minutes have been hard to come by for the former Juventus, featuring in just five games and just one as a starter which came against Atletico Madrid.

Yet he looks intent on staking his claim for a regular spot through his European outings, where he has started each group game so far and given a good account of himself in what is an unfamiliar formation for him.

As one of the two defensive midfielders of a 4-2-3-1, Pjanic has played alongside Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets and Carles Alena, and with each of them has performed well.

His last game against Ferencvaros was by far his best so far in a Blaugrana shirt, as he managed 134 passes of which 126 were successful - a record for the group stage of the competition.
