Player Ratings: Genoa 4-0 Palermo

Published on: 17 January 2016

Genoa leapfrogged their visitors today after outclassing Palermo with a 4-0 scoreline at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

The Rossoblu took an early lead when new loan signing Suso chipped in an effort in the third minute. The away side were lucky to go into the break with the score at 1-0. Managing to keep it this way until the final 20 minutes, the Rosanero succumbed to three Christian Ansaldi assisted goals.

Making it 2-0 was Leonardo Pavoletti with a looping header into the far corner. The third was an edge of the box strike from Venezuelan International Tomas Rincon. Rounding off the 4-0 win, Pavoletti sealed his brace with the goal of the game; an acrobatic thunderbolt which flew inside the far post.

Genoa

Mattia Perrin – 6 – Focused

Had little to do but kept his concentration up for when the saves needed to be made.

Ezequiel Munoz – 6 – Solid

No news is always good news for a defender as he did his job adequately.

Nicolas Burdisso – 6.5 – Organised

The player who looked to bring it out from the back, marshalled his defence well and not afraid to get stuck in when required.

Armando Izzo – 6 – Wasteful

Had two headed chances to increase the lead in the first half but squandered both with Sorrentino making the saves.

Christian Ansaldi – 7.5 – Dominant

A great first half with him dominating Lazaar to control the right wing. Looked solid and provided an option going forward putting in a lofted cross to set up Pavoletti for the second, then picking out Rincon for the third. Continued to have free reign and swung in another cross for the forth.

Tomas Rincon – 6 – Box-to-box

Looked to make late runs into the box and got his reward when he roofed the third in the 75th minute. Subbed off for Dzemaili.

Luca Rigoni – 6 – Strong

Imposed himself onto the game and was a rock in the middle of the park.

Diego Laxalt – 6 – Energetic

Provided a similar threat as Ansaldi did on the right. Provided a great outlet but his service was lacking.

Suso – 7.5 –  Everywhere

Genoa’s best player until subbed in 59th minute. Dinked a classy finished for the first goa

Leonardo Pavoletti – 7 – Persistent

Watched a few efforts saved well by Sorrentino but put away a lovely hanging header for the home sides second in the 71st minute. Showed a lot of class with his finish for Genoa’s 4th.

Diego Perotti – 7 – Flashy

Likely outgoing this month, the number 10 had some good touches including a delightful flick to set up Suso for the early goal. Worked a good chance for himself in the 64th minute but watched it wide and missed a free header with the game won at 2-0.

Substitutes

Diego Capel – 5 – Unfit

The 59th minute sub, initially caused problems with Genoa looking to put the game to bed but soon became tired as the result was sealed.

Blerim Dzemaili – N/A

Panagiotis Tachtsidis – N/A
