Pogba exit talk dismissed by Solskjaer

Published on: 26 April 2019

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he expects Paul Pogba to remain at the club following talk of a summer exit.

The France international has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks having become unsettled at Old Trafford, while he’s concerned about missing out on Champions League football next season.

The World Cup winner is also understood to be keen on linking up with his footballing hero Zinedine Zidane, who returned as Real manager earlier this year, and will push for an exit come the end of the season.

However, Solskjaer doesn't expect to lose his star central midfielder this summer, although the Norwegian couldn't guarantee he will remain at United.

When asked if Pogba could leave, Solskjaer responded: "I think he will be here next season.

"Paul has done fantastic for us. We want him to do well. He is a leader in the dressing room.

"If I could guarantee I would say yes (he will stay). You can't guarantee but I think he will be."

The Red Devils boss went on to defend the recent performances of the 26-year-old, who has been singled out for criticism lately, claiming he's become a victim of his own success

"That's just the standards he sets because when he's creating chances, scoring goals, doing loads of work everyone looks to Paul. He's done fantastic for us," he added.

"He's a human being as well and we're all the same, we want him to do well.

"He's a leader in that dressing room and on the pitch for us."

Pogba is expected to be in the United line up for Sunday's huge match with Chelsea at Old Trafford as the two top four hopefuls clash.

United are 17/10 for the win with the draw 5/2 and the Blues 17/10.

Chelsea start the weekend three points clear of United and are 4/5 to finish in the top four, while Solskjaer's men are 6/1.
