As a closure for the interview he released to Everton TV, 28-year old French defensive midfielder and Toffees powerhouse Abdoulaye Doucouré stated:
“Talking only about football on my social media profile is a way to protect my family and myself. There are some very good things about social media – but in other ways it is very bad, especially at the moment. There is a lot of racism and hate. People can hate me and my football, but I don’t want them to touch my family and kids. So, I separate my football and private life.
I have received comments on social media but didn’t report them. This kind of thing [offender sent to prison] will encourage players to report abuse. But there is still a long way to go, every week you see racist abuse. And we need to keep working on it and speaking about it”.
