Pressure mounts on PLB to postpone next week games due to Medeama's make-or-break Confederation Cup tie

Pressure is mounting on the Premier League Board to postpone next week's Premier League matches due to Medeama's involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Medeama are set host to Sudanese side Al Shendi in a crucial return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup on April 20 at the Sekondi stadium.

Coincidentally, the country's first mid-week fixtures takes place on the same day - prompting officials to request for postponement.

There are widespread fears the Premier League games will overshadow the side's important continental game -leading to several calls for the league matches to be put on hold.

The two-time Ghanaian FA Cup champions remain the country's only surviving team in Africa this year after the exit of Ashantigold from the CAF Champions League.

The club's deputy communication director Patrick Akoto is leading a crusade to have the Premier League games postponed insisting it is nothing new.

"I think the game should be postponed. We have done it for several clubs in the past and won't be the first," he told Accra-based Atinka FM

"We are the only team representing Ghana in Africa at the moment and therefore we need the collective support of everybody.

"Indeed postponing the league won't be the first and not sure will be the last.

"I don't think a deferment will spark any confusion or throw the calendar wide open.

"If the games are played the attention of the media will be shifted. We want the focus to be on Medeama next week.

He added:" We are therefore appealing to the Ghana FA and the Premier League Board to take a second look at our proposal."

Medeama hold the aces ahead of the reverse fixture after grinding out a pulsating 0-0 draw in the first leg in Sudan.
