Proposal made for La Liga season to completed entirely in Canary Islands

Tenerife's association of hotel workers have made a proposal to the Spanish FA and to LaLiga for the completion of the 2019/20 LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank seasons.

The association's president Jorge Marichal has suggested that Tenerife and the other islands that make up the Canary Islands could host the remaining fixtures of the season by converting the group of islands off the west coast of Africa into bubble footballing hub.

The fact that these are islands and that there is a significant degree of isolation due to the geography of the region has been put forward as one reason why this location could make sense.

Furthermore, the Canary Islands are a top tourist destination, so they have the hotel infrastructure to cope with housing the 42 teams of Spain's first and second divisions.

Due to the coronavirus situation, the islands' tourism industry has been seriously damaged and such an initiative would come as a major boost.

It remains to be seen if the Spanish footballing authorities would accept such an idea.

There has been talk of something similar being done in the USA, with Las Vegas touted as a potential bubble city for sports leagues in the USA to finish their seasons.
