Rafa Benitez provides fitness update on star trio after Villa defeat

Everton slump to limp defeat against Villa

Three goals in nine second-half minutes ensured that it was Aston Villa that took all three points in the encounter between the midlands outfit and Everton.

Everton, previously unbeaten, found themselves light on personnel yet remained in the game until this spell, with Demarai Gray coming close for Rafa Benitez’s side. The defeat could yet see them slip to seventh if Tottenham and West Ham were both to win today.

Aston Villa, by contrast, move up to tenth place in the league following their win.

Benitez provides update on trio’s fitness

Ahead of the game, Everton were handed a blow as Richarlison, Jordan Pickford and Seamus Coleman were all ruled out of contention for their game against the villians. They joined Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the sidelines, with the Englishman not expected back for two to three weeks.

And, speaking after the most recent defeat, Benitez suggested that the trio were all on a similar timescale when it comes to their injury recovery, revealing:

“At the moment we think it would be 2/3 weeks minimum [for Richarlison, Pickford and Coleman] and after we will see. [Gbamin] was a little bit tight in his quadriceps so as a precaution we decided to keep him out of the squad.”

This will rule the four out of Premier League games against Norwich and Manchester United as well as a League cup tie against QPR ahead of the next international break. Can the Toffees hold on without them?
