Roma line up transfer of Real Madrid defender

Published on: 27 December 2015

Roma have targeted a move for Real Madrid full-back Alvaro Arbeloa in the summer.

The 32-year-old’s contract at the Bernabeu expires in June and he is unlikely to be offered a new deal to stay in the Spanish capital.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the World Cup winner will join the Giallorossi during the summer transfer window on a free transfer.

Arbeloa won the UEFA Champions League in 2014 with Los Blancos after returning to the club from Premier League side Liverpool.

After graduating from Madrid’s youth set-up to the first team in 2002, the versatile defender moved to La Liga rivals Deportivo La Coruna before joining the Reds in January 2007.

The double European Championship winner has made over 150 appearances for Madrid since his return in 2009.

Madrid have recently been linked with a move for the Giallorossi playmaker Miralem Pjanic.
