Seagulls stun United again

Brighton defeated Manchester United for the second season running at the Amex Stadium, coming out deserved 3-2 winners.

Chris Hughton's team had secured their Premier League status with a win over the Red Devils in May and they repeated the trick in some style to get their first win of the new season.

Glenn Murray and Shane Duffy netted two goals in three minutes just after the midpoint of the first half, before Romelu Lukaku headed United back into the game 11 minutes before the interval.

Jose Mourinho's team suffered another big setback however when Pascal Gross powered home a penalty to leave it 3-1 at the break.

We are not speaking about small mistakes, we made big mistakes.

Marginally better in the second half, United could not engineer a goal before Paul Pogba also netted from 12-yards in stoppage time.

Brighton hit the front on 25 minutes, Solly March's low cross from the left impudently flicked past David De Gea by veteran forward Murray.

They were in dreamland moments later when Ireland international Duffy had time and space to slot home from ten-yards after United had failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Lukaku headed home Luke Shaw's cross but Eric Bailly soon lunged at Gross inside the box and the Seagulls midfielder hammered a penalty beyond De Gea, despite the Spaniard getting his foot on the ball.

Duffy brought down Marouane Fellaini in stoppage time at the end but the penalty was all too late for United.

Mourinho admitted afterwards that his side did not deserve a positive result.

"Too many mistakes," he told Sky Sports. "Sometimes you make mistakes and you are not immediately punished, we were always punished by every mistake we made."

"Step by step, the mistakes gave confidence to Brighton and took it away from us."

"We are not speaking about small mistakes, we made big mistakes."

Man United are 10/11 to finish in the top four this season and 25/1 to be title winners.
