SERIE A - Inter Milan tops UCL group D with win ove Shaktar Donetsk

Published on: 24 November 2021

With a brace in a 2-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, Edin Dzeko moved Inter Milan within touching distance of the Champions League last 16, giving his side a chance to reach the knockout stages for the first time in a decade.

Inter now need Real Madrid to at least draw with Sheriff Tiraspol later this month in Spain to seal their spot in next month's draw, which they did with a match to spare thanks to two classic Dzeko strikes in the space of six minutes in the second half.

Inter took the lead with a superb first-time strike from the edge of the area, and then nodded in a header to put the San Siro in a celebratory mood after the hosts had squandered a slew of chances and had two goals ruled out due to close calls.

Inter leads Group D with ten points after their third consecutive victory, one point ahead of Madrid and four ahead of Sheriff in third.
