Sir Alex FERGUSON: "I wanted Paolo Maldini for my United"

Published on: 08 February 2019

Talking to media lately, legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson stated: "In the 90's I wanted to bring Paolo Maldini to my United. I had the chance to talk about it to his father, Cesare, but then he shaked his head and told me to forget about it. After a short silence, he added: 'My grandfather and my father loved AC Milan too. There's no way Paolo is leaving the club'. Those were times AC Milan were in for big-time trophies, they couldn't afford to keep old glories in. Therefore, if Maldini played for them up until when he hit 40, it means he was a great player, as well as an undamaged one".
