Acting FIFA president Issa Hayatou fell asleep on the job in his first press conference as the interim leader of world's football governing body, exposing the African to global ridicule.

The 69-year-old ascended the throne of the most powerful position in the world's most popular sport following the suspension of Sepp Blatter.

But a recent kidney transplant looks to have taken its toll on the Cameroonian administrator who consistently dozed during an important meeting of the FIFA Executive Committee which was being aired live on global television.

After just three weeks of undergoing the major operation in France it was easy to see why the 69-year-old official from Cameroon briefly snoozed during a long-winded slideshow presentation of FIFA's reform program.

This exposed the fact that Hayatou might not at the moment too fit for the position and should have opted to rest after the impact of the kidney transplant he had in France three weeks ago.

However the leader of Africa's football governing body CAF was sharp and combative minutes later when asked about his health status to lead FIFA  through to the Feb. 26 election.

"I still have small problems of health but this doesn't keep me from being before you today," Hayatou said.

The heavy-set former track athlete has had regular dialysis treatment in recent years, often in Switzerland when on the FIFA executive committee duty he has done since 1990.
