Szczesny: Roma have to start winning the big games

Roma goalkeeper Wojiech Szczesny has lamented his team’s inability to win games against the likes of Juventus after their 1-0 loss to the Bianconeri on Sunday.

Since the winter break the Giallorossi have seen their Scudetto challenge collapse with no win in their last four games, a run of form which leaves them 12 points behind league leaders Napoli.

“Juventus are a very organised team, we tried to play, but we ran into difficulties.” said the Arsenal loanee to Premium Sports after the match.

“We have to start winning the big games, not just games that are considered easy. Our confidence is low, it’s hard when a big club like Roma loses these games, but we have to pick ourselves up and look to the future.”

Szczesny then spoke to Roma TV saying that the Giallorossi’s aim is just to win their next game. “We were well prepared, we used a new formation, but it was a difficult game. Unfortunately, the defeat tastes sour.

“Can we reach third place? Our goal is to beat Frosinone next weekend. We can improve our league position gradually, starting with victory in the next game.

“Playing three in defence? I feel more secure, but we still need to improve. The coach has done a great job, but it takes time to adapt to a new formation. We remain optimistic.”
