Tema Youth earn late draw against Hearts

Tema Youth threw spokes into the wheels of title contenders Hearts of Oak with a late comeback to earn a 1-1 draw at home.

Hearts were cruising to victory which could have sent them joint top before the christamas break.

Tema Youth midfielder Kenneth Owusu nearly gifted the 'Phobians' the precious points when he connected home an Doulgas Nkrumah's 75th corner kick.

But Owusu turned from villain to hero as he headed home the leveller with three minutes left for play.

Hearts went into the fixture determined to pick their first three points at the Tema Park but the habour-based side proved too strong to go down.

Striker Mahatma Otoo skied a good chance that could have seen the Phobians go ahead inside the first five minutes.

Youth defenders were caught ball watching and the Black Meteors striker ghosted into the area but skied the chance.

Philip Boampong and Godwin Osei Bonsu ensured Tema Youth had limited chances to threaten Sammy Adjei's goal.

The few times they managed to break down this solid defensive partnership, Sammy Adjei became another stumbling block.

Hearts of Oak continued to create the chances and wasted them.  Mahatma Otoo's 22nd horrible miss attracted boos from a section of the Hearts of Oak.

Douglas Nkrumah managed to scroll his effort away from goal when scoring seemed an easier option.

Moments later, there was a great eruption in the Hearts of Oak stands and this was in responds of the news that their arch-rivals Kotoko had fallen behind at All Stars.

Tema Youth returned from recess with an improved performance but it was Hearts of Oak who found the net.

They conceded under regretting circumstances as they put themselves onto the sword.

Nkrumah delivered a stinging corner kick from the left for Tema Youth midfielder Kenneth Owusu to knock into his own net.

Hearts could have sealed the victory just after scoring the opener but the misfiring Otoo wasted all the chances that came his way.

The last 15 minutes belonged to Tema Youth and they made good use of it.

A free kick was won at the right which was expertly delivered for Kenneth Owusu to snatch a point for Youth.

The draw will send Hearts to third place and have been overtaken by Wa All Stars who beat leaders Kotoko 1-0 at home.

Wa All Stars wrote a new history in their five year spell in the Ghanaian top flight by recording their debut victory against Asante Kotoko cruising to a 1-0 win.
