Kuala Lumpur: Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia confirmed their places in next year’s AFC U20 Futsal Championship Iran 2019 Finals after finishing as the top three teams in the ASEAN Zone Qualifiers on Sunday.
Thailand occupied top spot in the standings with 10 points, followed by Vietnam and Indonesia with eight and seven points respectively.
THAILAND 4-2 INDONESIA
Bangkok: Thailand finished their qualifying campaign undefeated after beating Indonesia 4-2 at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium.
Chutinan Raksasap gave the host nation the lead in the second minute, and they doubled their tally two minutes later through an own-goal from Indonesia’s Muhammad Rizki Xavier.
Indonesia, who had scored wins against Malaysia and Myanmar, pulled one back 10 minutes later through Muhammad Sanjaya’s effort but fell behind again just moments later when Muhammad Syaifullah also conceded an own goal.
Thailand’s Charoondej Muenthiang made it 4-1 two minutes before the break.
In the second half, Syaifullah redeemed himself when he found the back of the net in the 22nd minute.
The young Garuda proved to be Thailand’s toughest opponents in the Qualifiers as they failed to find another breakthrough but it was not needed as they held on to their two-goal lead to seal top spot.
Despite the defeat, Indonesia finished third in the standings with seven points, which was enough to send them to the 2019 Finals.
MALAYSIA 1-2 VIETNAM
Woen was the star of the night, as his last minute goal secured Vietnam a 2-1 win over Malaysia.
Malaysia needed a win to qualify for the Finals and began their pursuit from the first blow of the whistle, but it was Vietnam who enjoyed a head start through Nhan Gia Hung’s third minute effort.
Three minutes after the break, Malaysia found their equaliser through Ahmad Habith Naim.
As the match seemed headed for tie, Vietnam’s Woen found the back of the net in the dying seconds with the three points pushing Vietnam into second place.
