The incredible amount of money David Alaba will earn at Real Madrid

Published on: 30 July 2021

David Alaba's contract with Real Madrid has been leaked, revealing the Austrian will take home a whopping £376,000 per week for the next five years.

The Austrian chose to let his contract with Bayern Munich expire this summer, ending his 13-year association with the German giants in favour of inking a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

As one of the best players in the world, Alaba was always likely to command a hefty wage from whichever team took him on, and according to the latest leaks from Der Spiegel, he has convinced Real to part with a whopping €115m (£98m) over the duration of his contract, which works out at a cool £376,000-a-week... before bonuses.

Real were offering those wages at the same time as club president Florentino Perez was crying to the media about the need for a Super League to save elite clubs from financial ruin. It's obviously all football's fault and nothing to do with reckless spending.

The fun continues when you see just how much Real paid out in costs. Alaba was awarded a €17.7m (£15m) signing-on bonus just for being kind enough to join the club, while his family were handed €6.3m (£5.4m) and agent Pini Zahavi pocketed a cool €5.2m (£4.4m).

For what it's worth, Christian Falk revealed that Zahavi was looking for that kind of money from Bayern for Alaba to renew his contract, but wisely, they chose to walk away from the table. Alaba is obviously great, but there's a limit.

Well, there's a limit for everyone apart from Real.

Publicly, Real have insisted that there is no money to spend on transfers this summer, which is why they are on a mission to offload players.

Real also hope to sign Kylian Mbappe

After Sergio Ramos walked away for free, Raphael Varane has agreed to join Manchester United and there are hopes to part ways with countless other players in a bid to raise enough money to sign PSG's Kylian Mbappe.

Should Mbappe join, he'll likely be handed even bigger wages than Alaba - so just remember that next time you see Perez crying into a microphone.
