The flood gates have been opened, the battle lines have been drawn and the campaign has soon started following the decision of the Vice President of the Ghana Football Association to declare his intentions to contest for the presidential seat of the federation at a swanky birthday party.

Dubbed 'The Mensvic Delaration', the Mensvic Hotel was greeted with massive applauds after George Afriyie announced his decision to run for the presidential post next year.

Well-wishers, family members, friends and several football administrators and club owners were at the occasion to celebrate with George Afriyie who turned 50 this year.

“Following and extensive consultation with all the stakeholders in the game, I’ll be putting out my vision for Ghana football in the coming days.

“In the last few months I’ve had the thought and the question as to whether I will be contesting for the GFA Presidency in 2019 following the public disclosure by my boss Mr. Nyantakyi that he will not be contesting in the next elections," George noted.

“Mr. Chairman, I would like to use this memorable occasion to announce my intention to take part in the 2019 FA Presidential election," George declared.

George hinted that he will be rolling out his vision for Ghana football in the coming days after consultations with key stakeholders since he's declared his intentions to contest now.

It is, however, uncertain whether Kwesi Nyantakyi will really not contest in next year's election with massive skepticism about his declaration not to contest.

Several commentators after the birthday party which ended up as a platform for the declaration of presidential ambitions have expressed concerns about the declaration by George, questioning why the declaration has been made too early ahead of the elections next year.

Some admirers of the Ghana FA who have lauded the unquestionable relationship between George Afriyie and Kwesi Nyantakyi have been searching for answers to the question - what if Kwesi Nyantakyi decides to go for re-election?

That will be a dramatic turn of event as George will be seen in a battle for power with Nyantakyi - a man George has always described as his boss.

Following George's declaration, he becomes the second person to have expressed interest in contesting for the enviable position after the President of Division One League side Phar Rangers, Nana Yaw Amponsah, rolled out his vision for Ghana football after declaring his intentions to vie for the position some few months ago.
