Former Leeds United and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Tony Yeboah recounts how referees will come to him directly to demand for bribes when he was owner of the defunct Yegoala FC.

Yeboah, following his retirement, established a football club and named it Yegoala FC as a way of giving back to society in a bid to aid upcoming footballers to realise their potential.

The team which competed in Ghana's second-tier collapsed in 2014 after Yeboah decided to sell the club because of constant demand of bribes from match officials.

Speaking to ace broadcaster Kwabena Yeboah of GTV Sports+, he disclosed why he sold Yegoala FC.

"But what I realized is that Ghana football when you don’t pay the referees you will not win," Yeboah said.

"They have to come to you and ask you when you are not paying you are going to lose. They tell you directly. It is the fact,"

"So I was complaining and complaining. Because I remember one of the matches i think it was against one of the Obuasi teams.

"The referee was so bad. Officiating was very very bad and I went to the referee and asked do you know me? I am Tony Yeboah but the way you handled the match is not good.

"He told me so this is your first time of coming into the league? When the person comes to your home it is yours, and when you go to them it is for them."

Yeboah had an illustrious career in Europe as he was a cult hero at Eintracht Frankfurt, Leeds United and Hamburg SV.

He also had the opportunity of playing for the Black Stars where he scored 26 times in 59 matches.

Yeboah is regarded as one of the best forward's ever to play in the Germany and England top divisions.
