Stefanos Tsistipas needs to improve as the matches get tougher
In his first appearance at the Olympics, Stefanos Tsitsipas is looking for a medal finish as he has one of the best records on hard courts winning 17 of 22 matches this year. The Greek’s best results came on clay though, winning in Lyon and Monte Carlo and reaching the French Open Final and losing to Novak Djokovic.
Tsitsipas was shaky in the last couple of weeks as he lost in the first round of Wimbledon to Tiafoe. The world number four then lost in the quarter-final in Hamburg. In his first-round match against Kohlschreiber in Tokyo, Tsitsipas needed three sets to win and had to come back from a breakdown in the third set to claim victory.
Tsitsipas Key Stats
- Tsitsipas has played on average 25.9 games per match this year on hard courts
- The average number of breakpoints won by Tsitsipas is 43%
- 52% is the average points won by Tsitsipas on his second serve
Frances Tiafoe boosted with confidence after first-round win
It has been a season with a lot of ups and downs for Frances Tiafoe. The American had a bad season on clay which is his least favorite surface winning three of eight matches on the red dirt. On grass, Tiafoe won a challenger tournament in Nottingham and reached the third round in London and Wimbledon after beating Tsitsipas in the first round.
The 23-year-old slipped down the ranks in the last two years from his career-best 29. In his first-ever match in the Olympics, Tiafoe had no trouble seeing off Kwon Soon-Woo in two sets. He served 12 aces and winning 85% of his first-serve points. Those stats accompanied by just 12 unforced errors can boost Tiafoe’s confidence in his crucial match.
Tiafoe key stats
- Tiafoe has a 7-5 win / loss record on hard courts this year
- The average number of games played by Tiafoe per match is 28.3
- The first serve average by Tiafoe is 58.1%
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Frances Tiafoe Prediction
It comes as no surprise that Tsitsipas is the favorite to win this match. Vbet is offering 1.21 for the Greeks win. Despite losing to Tiafoe in Wimbledon, this match is being played on a hard court on which Tsitsipas has a much better record than Tiafoe.
The world number four has the ability to win any match as he has shown many times. We think this match is one of those if he can find the form he was in earlier this season.
Tiafoe is a player who is inconsistent and that has been seen in matches where he would lose after being ahead. We think the American can cause problems for Tsitsipas if serves in very high percentages and win many games as he did in his first game.
The betting markets at the time of writing are quite limited and we will back the total games played in this match.
