The two second placed teams from groups A and C come together in this round of 16 clash. Both Switzerland and Poland are so-far undefeated at Euro 2016 but that will change on Saturday afternoon as we now reach the knockout stages of the tournament. Many would even call this the start of the tournament proper.

Games involving the Swiss have hardly been goalfests with a total of three goals (two scored and one conceded) in their first three games at this tournament. You would have expected a side of their stature to be putting more passed Albania and Romania and this does not bode well for later on during the tournament.

Poland fared better in their group with two wins and one draw and only missed out on top spot due to Germany’s superior goal difference – like the Swiss they scored have a disappointing amount of goals (2). The Poles are many people’s dark horse and they have come through one of the so-called ‘groups of death’ and therefore confidence will be at a good level. Additionally, Poland, along with neighbours Germany, are the only team yet to concede a goal at Euro 2016.

I cannot see passed a Poland win as I do not think the Swiss possess enough in attack to breach this resilient Polish defence. A straight Poland win at 17/10 is good value but I am going to stick my neck out for a bigger return. As this is a last 16 match and neither side will want to risk losing this by going all-out attack I think it could be tense. Given both sides’ poor goalscoring record in the competition so far, I cannot see there being more than 2.5 goals. With this in mind I have gone with a Poland win and a total of under 2.5 goals at 13/5.
