Schalke have sent United States youth international Haji Wright on loan to German second-tier club Sandhausen.

Wright, who joined Schalke from New York Cosmos in 2016, will spend the 2017-18 season with Sandhausen.

The 19-year-old, who is under contract with Schalke until 2020, helped the club's under-19s side to the Westfalenpokal last season.

"Haji is on a very good path," Schalke sporting executive Christian Heidel told the club's official website. "What he needs most now is game time in professional football, and he can do that at Sandhausen now.

"He will return to us next summer to continue his development at Schalke."

Wright says he is looking forward to getting started at Sandhausen.

"I am delighted about my contract at SV Sandhausen," he told their official website. "I want to achieve a lot here, score many goals and play a successful season with SVS."

Sandhausen coach Kenan Kocak added: "I am delighted we've signed Haji. I am convinced that we can profit from his pace and his good training at Schalke."
